Cover — the transformation journey, from current-state assessment to continual improvement.

OVERVIEW

Why it exists.

Most IT teams do not struggle for lack of effort. They struggle because there is no agreed way of working. Users arrive through several different routes, priority is decided by whoever picks up the phone, the same faults return every month, changes are made without assessment, and nobody can say with evidence whether the service is getting better or worse.

This system replaces that with structure. It takes an organisation from an honest assessment of where it is today, through the business case and the target operating model, into the service management practices themselves — and then into the measurement, governance and continual improvement that keep those practices alive once the first push is over. It is aligned primarily to ITIL® 4 concepts, terminology and service management practices.

FEATURES

Built to be implemented, not admired.

ASSESS

Evidence, not opinion

Twenty-two areas of IT service management, scored one to five against what you can actually show. The scores produce the gaps, the gaps produce the priorities and the priorities produce the plan, so the roadmap is derived rather than argued.

PLAN

A case leadership will approve

The business case framework turns assessment findings into business consequences, benefits, cost and effort. It includes the one-page executive summary and the presentation, so the ask is made in the language the board already uses.

DESIGN

An operating model that fits

Named service and practice owners, decision rights, escalation and a governance rhythm sized for a small team. Roles are described as hats rather than headcount, so nothing here requires you to hire before you can start.

IMPLEMENT

Priority practice frameworks

A selected set of priority IT service management practices — service desk, incident, request, problem, change, service levels, knowledge, assets and more — each with a process, decision points, escalation, measures and a first thirty days.

MEASURE

Measures that change decisions

Thirty defined measures with formulas, sources, owners and reviewing forums, plus the weekly, monthly and executive reporting packs. With guidance throughout on avoiding the vanity metrics that make a bad month look acceptable.

IMPROVE

Improvement that survives

A continual improvement register with a prioritisation model, benefit tracking and an annual reassessment against the same twenty-two areas, so progress is comparable year on year rather than asserted.

WHO IT IS FOR

Written for the team that has to run it.

  • IT Managers and Heads of IT

Accountable for a service that has outgrown its processes, usually without extra budget or headcount to put it right.

  • Service Desk Managers

Running the front door — volumes, priorities, escalation and reporting that has to stand up in front of the business.

  • IT Operations Managers

Holding change, problem and continuity together across a small team, several suppliers and an organisation that keeps growing.

  • Transformation and Change Leads

Given a mandate to professionalise IT and a deadline, and needing a sequence that survives contact with the day job.
